Norway

SoftSeaweed software was established in 2021 in Norway by an international team of people with vast experience in the seaweed industry, engineering, management consulting, IT, and agriculture. The client’s vision is to support seaweed farmers in developing their businesses in a sustainable and profitable way.

The prototype was created with the product discovery workshop.

Existing solution overview

SoftSeaweed assists seaweed farmers in planning and executing daily operations, monitoring the status of the cultivation rig, mooring system, and the environment at sea, and predicting the yield and ideal harvest time. The platform provides reports on site selection, farm valuation, and certifications through various data sources, including historical and satellite data.

Project major goals

There were two main targets outlined in our cooperation with the client:

  • To create a mobile application prototype that would display meteorological and sensor data for seaweed growing;
  • To develop technical requirements for an MVP.

Axon Team

We have built a team that includes two Business Analysts, the UX/UI Designer, the Project Manager, and the Solution Architect.

Product discovery

First things first, we ensured that the client's idea could be developed in an efficient and cost-effective way. The prototype development process started with product discovery to transform the client’s ideas into tangible concept.

[01]

Stage 1: Research

In the first stage, we went deep into the product idea. Our team interviewed stakeholders on the client’s side, researched competitors’ solutions, and investigated user tasks. It was necessary to plunge into it to understand the market specificity and ensure that the future product could meet clients' needs.

[02]

Stage 2: Ideation

After collecting all the basic and necessary information we started to work on the list of product features. The ideation stage included:

  • Lightning demos - group sessions where the team gathered ideas and inspirations;
  • Sketching - graphical representations of the idea;
  • Prototyping - creating the clickable prototype itself.

Stage 3: Improvement

In this stage, our team has been working on the concept improvements. It outlined searching for product weaknesses and vulnerable points, conducting a risk analysis, and working with the client’s feedback.

[04]

Stage 4: Documentation

In the final stage of product discovery, we put all of our development together. As the result, we delivered to the client:

  • User navigation map - route instruction of how the user interacts with the application;
  • Technical documentation - business requirements transformed into technical ones for the development team;
  • User stories - detailed description of all application features from the user’s perspective;
  • High-fidelity clickable prototype ready for the development stage.

Prototype Overview

[01]

Axon development team has produced a clickable prototype for several modules and structure system requirements for the mobile application. According to the prototype, the future mobile app will allow users to perform the following actions:

  • Create and manage personal profiles;
  • Create and manage companies with users roles;
  • Create and manage licenses to access the data from sensors;
  • Create and manage farms.

API functionality

The prototype has an API through which the application receives data from meteorological services and sensors.

[03]

Operational modules

The prototype also partially includes an operational module with such functionalities as hatchery, deployment, and harvesting.
